1stWorks announces new hotComm business tools for secure global peer to peer collaboration among users of all major business applications.
Release 18 of hotComm now supports group navigation, dynamic content update and secure markup for all major business applications like Word, Lotus 123, or AutoCAD, sharing content and revisions inside any OLE compliant application.
Sudbury MA, January 27, 2002 - 1stWorks Corporation,
today announced the immediate availability of hotComm Release 18, the latest version of its powerful and secure desktop collaboration software. The features and the business benefits in this release, added to hotComm's existing range of spontaneous collaboration capabilities, truly deliver the tools to leverage the potential for group collaboration across any Enterprise.
hotComm delivers spontaneous collaboration. There is no waiting or advanced scheduling required. Simply select the group members from your Peer list and get to work using secure group chat or voice over IP communication. It's easier than walking down the corridor to talk with a colleague.
Once a collaboration session is established, any document, spreadsheet or Web page can be sent to the entire group. Immediately, the selected content opens on each desktop in the group.
- Need to arrive at group consensus on the content? The new Transparent Collaborator, a clear Whiteboard-like overlay can be placed over relevant content on the screen, whether it's a Web page or an open document. The new markup tools make highlighting particular subjects or text easy. Text or free form drawing allows all collaborators a choice of update style.
- Need to revise the content in real time? Choose between Exclusive Control, where only one member has change privileges, or Full Control, where all group members have the opportunity to modify the content. When you have finished, simply save the changes.
- Need to talk about the issues? Click on the microphone icon and instantly get a voice over IP connection with any individual or the whole group.
hotComm works the way you work, to realize fully the benefits of group collaboration with world wide participants.
Release 18 also supports the 1stWorks http Proxy Server, a simple and elegant solution for users located behind a corporate firewall that has no outbound ports open. All the powerful functionality of hotComm, including IM-Live and Ezpeer, are easily available through any browser from any desktop.
hotComm is the desktop client in the 1stWorks Peer Network. The clean, intuitive interface graphics show each registered user currently online and connects with any or all of them simply by selecting their names from the Peer List. Sessions, with up to 255 contacts, are linked directly, securely and interactively, from person to person, desktop to desktop, however and wherever the Web connection is created.
Because hotComm has no central server managing data flow, there is no single point of failure or gateway for unauthorized access. Security is further insured through the use of a streaming cipher. All session data is encrypted with a unique key based on a specific combination of the particular session and the individual participants. Breaking a session connection and then reconnecting with the same users generates a new session and a different encryption key. This dynamic key insures privacy and confidentiality for all connectivity and collaboration.
hotComm supports multiple communication modes for group access:
- Text Messaging transmits every single word separately so that the message builds dynamically in front of the recipient. The abbreviation/expansion feature reduces your typing effort by coding frequently used phrases and expressions.
- Clicking on the microphone icon seamlessly switches to Voice and provides a direct audio contact with colleagues.
- The hotWeb feature provides a shared window where any user can display Web pages or other content simultaneously to all the other session members and follow any embedded links.
- hotCam delivers one click compressed screenshot distribution instantly to all the session participants.
- "Drag and drop" File Transfer allows any user to provide selective access to local data files on each computer system to other peers, to groups or to anyone on the World Wide Web.
- The Web page icon lets the session host enter a URL or select one from a favorites list and automatically present it on the screens of the other session members for collaborative discussion and modification.
As with other hotComm communications, every file transfer is protected through encryption with a unique, dynamic key specific to the particular users in each individual session.
