hotComm CL and the Green Person button
hotComm CL was originally designed for connecting through a link on a website -- you install hotComm CL, wait for the earphones on the headset icon in the lower right corner of your Windows taskbar to turn red-and-blue, then click a link on the room owner's website to connect.
However, many room owners prefer that people connect directly from the hotComm CL client instead of through a link on a website. As of revision 7.07, you can use the Green Person button feature to do so.
New Installations
For a new installation where you are going to use the Green Person button for connecting:
1 |
Install hotComm Cl from http://www.hotcomm.com/downloadCL.asp (users) or http://www.hotComm.com/downloadclmp.asp (presenters and moderators).
|
2 |
You may be asked to restart your computer. If so, after your computer restarts, click the yelloow hotComm CL shortcut on your desktop to start hotCom CL and finish the installation.
|
3 |
When you reach the "Your hotComm CL Identity" screen, type in your nickname (the name you want to be seen as in the room) and your email address, verify your email address and click OK.
|
4 |
You may see a hotComm CL chat window that stays up. Or, you may see a brief flash of a chat window that minimizes to a tiny headset icon in the lower right corner of your Windows taskbar. If the chat window does not stay up, right-click the headset icon and select Restore.
|
5 |
In the chat window, click the Green Person button.
|
6 |
Erase what's in the Target Site window, and type in the address that the room owner gave you. The address is always in the format relay:roomname, such as relay4:testjr (where relay4 is the relay and testjr is the room).
|
7 |
Type in the room password and click OK. If the room does not have a password, type in a blank space.
|
8 |
Check the Popup Connect to Target Site on startup checkbox, so that this target site window will pop up automatically whenever you start hotComm CL.
|
9 |
Click Connect
|
Note that the room address stays in the Target Site list. If you uninstall hotComm CL, you will lose the entries in the list.
