Connection Messages

You are trying to connect to a hotComm address and you are getting an error message.

Note: For information on firewalls, see Firewalls. If you use Kaspersky Internet Security or Anti-Virus, click Kaspersky.

To see possible reasons for the message you're receiving, click the message below.

Pop-Up Messages

The Content Relay Server does not recognize the room name you're requesting.

This message means there is an error in the roomname part of the address. The relay server is valid, but the roomname is incorrect. Note that you may see a password challenge before you get the message.

For example, your address is relay4:wrongroom instead of relay4:rightroom

What to do:
Check your instructions to make sure you have the correct relay, the correct roomname and spelling, and then correct any typos. Note that the address must not include any spaces. See How to fix the Address.

Rev. 7.0+

A room specification is required to access the server [..].

This message means that the relay server part of the address is valid, but you did not include the room part of the address.

For example, your address is relay4 instead of relay4:rightroom

What to do:
Check your instructions to make sure you typed the full address, which is usually in the format relayserver:roomname. See How to fix the Address.

Rev. 7.0+

The server part of the address that you're requesting is incorrect or does not exist.

This message means that there is an error in the relay server part of the address. You may have mistyped the relay server name, or omitted it.

For example, your address is invalidrelay:rightroom instead of relay4:rightroom

What to do:
Check your spelling, correct the address and try again. See How to fix the Address.

Rev. 7.2+

The connection to the address you're requesting [...] did not succeed.

The most common reasons are:

1. Kaspersky: You have Kaspersky Internet Security or Anti-Virus, which allows the first connection to the 1stWorks Network, but blocks the connections to the our relay servers. Please see our articles on how to configure Kaspersky 6.0 and Kaspersky 7.0.

Note: Some other firewalls and anti-virus products allow hotComm clients to connect to the Internet but block the connection to the relay server, just as Kaspersky does. Please check our article on firewalls at http://www.hotcomm.com/FAQ/FAQ_firewalls.asp.

2. Temporary connection problem: There may be a temporary Internet ISP problem with the connection between your computer and the hotComm relay server. (When you connect to a hotComm room, your connection passes through many servers that belong to different ISPs, much as you might take different highways and pass different cities when traveling by car. The problem could be anywhere along that route.)

3. Blocked by moderator: You were disconnected and blocked from a room by a moderator. If you think that's the case, we will need permission from the moderator to unblock you.

4. Other: There may be some other cause. Please click Help, then Ask Support A Question, and let us know what message you're getting, along with as much information as you can provide to help us identify the room you want. We support many rooms, and need a more specific description than "the live trading room" or "the webinar".

Rev. 7.2+

This is not the correct password for this room at this time.

This message means that the password is wrong. The most common reasons are:

1. Typo: You typed in the wrong password.

2. Saved password: Your hotComm client is trying to connect with a saved password, but the password has changed (hotComm clients remember the password you entered previously).

3. Timing: The password is correct, but you are trying to enter the room too early and the moderator has not yet changed the room to accept the new password.

What to do:
If you are using hotComm CL, click OK. You'll get a Session Password window, where you can type in the correct password.

If you are using hotComm Lite or hotComm Standard/Pro, click No. You'll get a Session Password window, where you can type in the correct password. Note: clicking Yes lets you send an email to the room owner.

Note: The Room Owners have full control over passwords. Please contact them directly if you have a password question. hotComm Support does not know what the room passwords are.

Rev. 7.0+

Connection rejected due to being blocked at the requested server.

This message means that you have been blocked from this relay server by a Server Administrator.

What to do:
Check with hotComm Support. We recommend sending an email to support@1stWorks.com, and include the email address of your hotComm registration, the nickname you typically use, and the relay server that you can't connect to.

Chat window indicators:

User List relay(s) are red -- in hotComm Std/Pro

This behavior applies to hotComm Standard/Pro only, and refers to the red or green icons in front of the relays in the User List. In this case, the bottom line of your hotComm window says "Online-" instead of "Signed Out", but one or more of the relay server icons in your Users List are red (Off).

If all the relay server icons are red (Off), it usually means that your firewall or security products are allowing hotComm to make the first connection to the 1stWorks NetWork, but are then blocking the additional connections to the relay servers. Kaspersky products are one example.

If one or more relay server icons in the User List are red while others are green, it means that you've connected to the 1stWorks Network successfully, but there is a problem connecting to the individual relay server(s). The most common reasons are that there is a temporary problem in the Internet path between you and the relay server(s), or that you have been blocked by a room moderator.

What to do:
This is the Std/Pro equivalent of the The connection to the address you're requesting [...] did not succeed. message that hotComm Lite and hotComm CL users see. Click here to see that explanation.

Signed Out - on the bottom line of the chat window

This message usually means that your hotComm client can not connect to the 1stWorks network or registration server.

What to do:
Configure your firewall and security software to allow your hotComm client to connect. You can check our article on firewalls at http://www.hotcomm.com/FAQ/FAQ_firewalls.asp.

Online Tunnelled - on the bottom line of the chat window

This message usually means that connecting through a proxy server or you are connecting through a Satellite.

What to do:
If you are connecting through a Satellite, configure hotComm for a better connection. To do this: left-click the "Online-Tunnelled" message, check Directly, and click OK. Then close your hotComm client, wait 20 seconds, and restart it. The message should now say "Online-Proxied" or "Online-Direct".

If you are connecting through a proxy server, there may not be anything you can do unless your network administrator can set you up so that you can bypass the proxy server when you connect.
