Info to add hotComm

We went to Application Control Settings. To do this:

  1. Open the main product page.

  2. Click Settings.

  3. Select Network connections > Application control, select Applications tab, browse to add, c-drive, programs, 1stWorks, hotComm, Bin, hotComm.exe, click ok, click ok again to close window.

Can't connect to Internet after installing F-Secure

Sometimes an application may not be able to connect to the Internet after you have installed the F-Secure product.The reason for this may be that application control denies the connection.

Solution

Make sure that your computer is connected to the Internet. After that, check the application control settings. To do this:

  1. Open the main product page.

  2. Click Settings.

  3. Select Network connections > Application control.

  4. Click the Connections tab. If the Outbound setting for the application has been set to Deny, all outbound connection attempts by that application are blocked.

  5. To allow the connections, select the application and click Details....

  6. In the Outbound (client) column, select Allow.

  7. Click OK to confirm your selection.

  8. Click OK to close the window.




No access to Internet or Email after installing F-Secure

It is possible that after installing F-Secure Internet Security, you appear to no longer have access to the Internet or Email.

Solution

If you have no access to the Internet or your e-mail after the installation of F-Secure Internet Security, one possibility is that you have denied your browser's network connections.

To check that the network connections are allowed for your browser:

  1. Click the Internet Shield tab.

  2. Click Advanced.

  3. Select Internet Shield > Application Control.

  4. Click the Applications tab. You can view a list of denied or allowed applications.

  5. Locate the browser that you are using. For example, if you use Internet Explorer, locate iexplore.exe.

  6. Check that the connections are allowed for your browser.




Application Control pop-ups

When the application control pop-up appears, it asks if you want to allow the application to access the Internet.

What to do when an application control pop-up appears?

Safe applications

If you know that it is safe to allow the application to access the Internet, select Do not ask again and click Allow. Applications that can be considered safe are:

  • known applications that you have actively started yourself

  • Windows services that connect to the Internet

  • safe Microsoft Windows Services.

Suspicious applications

Any application you have received from a source you do not trust should always be treated with suspicion. Any application you have received from a trusted source without prior agreement should also be treated as suspicious. If you are not sure whether you should allow the application to access the Internet, click Deny. If you are sure that you do not want to allow the suspicious application to access the Internet, select Do not ask again and click Deny. Applications that can be considered unsafe are:

  • any application that you have not actively installed yourself or have no knowledge of

  • any application that you consider safe but which tries to connect to the Internet or act as a server without you starting it

  • a connection that displays an IP address instead of DNS name as a target, or

  • any application that tries to start another application or manipulate another running application without you starting




Firewall profiles

Firewall profiles allow you to instantly change your level of protection according to your needs, and they are automatically updated to ensure that you are protected against the newest forms of malicious computer programs and Internet attacks.

F-Secure Internet Security includes several firewall profiles that enable you to set more flexible or more strict security policies. Each firewall profile is composed of a set of pre-configured firewall rules. If you are a more advanced user, you can create your own firewall rules to modify the security level.




Configuring security level

Security Levels for Internet Shield allow you to instantly change your level of protection according to your needs, and they are automatically updated to ensure that you are protected against the newest forms of malicious computer programs and Internet attacks.

To change your security level:

  • Double-click the blue F-Secure Internet Security icon on your Windows system tray on the bottom right corner of your screen to open the main menu.

  • Select the Internet Shield tab on the mainmenu.

  • On the Internet Shield page, click 'Internet Shield . . . Change'. The Internet Shield Security Level window opens.

  • Select the desired security level from the drop-down list. A description of the selected security level is shown.

  • Click OK if you want to take the selected security level in use. Click Cancel to keep the current security level.

    Summary

    This article explains how to change or edit an Internet Shield rule that you have created.

    Configuring rules

    Note: The rules in gray are predefined in the currently selected Internet Shield security level and cannot be edited. You can only edit and remove rules that you have created yourself.

    To edit your firewall rules:

    1. Double-click the blue F-Secure Internet Security icon on your Windows system tray at the bottom right corner of your screen to open the main menu.

    2. Click the 'Internet Shield' tab on the main menu.

    3. Click on 'Firewall . . .Configure' on the Internet Shield page. The Firewall window opens.

    4. On the 'Rules' tab, double-click the rule that you want to edit. TheFirewall Rule Wizard opens. Follow the wizard to make the desired changes to the firewall rule.
