Remote Control of a Windows client

With hotComm Presenter Pro (and higher), you can remotely control one (1) hotComm or hotComm Lite client at a time through a room or in a peer-to-peer connection. You cannot remotely control hotComm CL clients.

Requirements for the controller:

  • hotComm Presenter Pro license (or higher), which appears in your Registration Profile Information as hotComm Pro.

  • For remote control through a room, you must have Online-Proxied or Online-Direct connection status.

  • Remote control through a room is disabled if there are more than 5 public users (non-moderators) in the room.

  • Remote control through a peer-to-peer connection requires Online-Direct connection status. See Firewalls, Ports and Routers.

Working with Remote Control

To request remote control:

  1. Right-click on the customer's name in Invited List and select Request Remote Dynamic Desktop.

  2. Your customer sees a request to allow you to control their desktop, they accept.

  3. You see a window that says Loading Dynamic Desktop. Wait while it loads.

  4. Once the remote control session is established, you can control their computer. They can also act on it.

  5. To release control, you click Yield Control, or close the Dynamic Desktop window, or right-click the Dynamic Desktop icon and select Close.

The customer can throw you out by pressing both Shift keys in sequence: left-Shift then right-Shift.

Notes:

  • The remote control suppresses the customer's Windows background during the session.

  • This may be slower than you expect. We recommend that you talk to the customer by telephone during this process, so that you can confirm what is happening.
