Timed Session Recordings (Std/Pro)

This article applies to hotComm Standard/Pro. If you are using hotComm CL, see Recording with CL.

You can set the recording to start and end at specified times. You can also set it to log into a room automatically at a specific time and start recording 10 seconds later. Note: hotComm must be running for this feature to work; it does not automatically launch your hotComm client.

To set this up:

  1. Right click the hotComm R-in-a-circle recording icon, or select Session Record Setup from the Session menu.

  2. Select the recording format (HCR or WMV).

  3. Check the Enable Time Recording, and set the Start Time and End Time.

  4. If you want to set up the auto-login, check Server/Room to Moderate or Record.

Or, if you want to set timed recording for a room that you plan to join before the recording starts, click OK and skip the rest of these instructions.

  5. Type the name of the room in Find, and click Find Next.

When the roomname is found, the Target is populated with the address in relayserver:roomname format.

  6. If a password is required for the room, type it in Optional Room Password.

  7. If you want to join with a different nickname, type it in Optional Nickname

  8. Click Set Room.

  9. Leave hotComm running, or make sure that you start it. This process does not automatically start hotComm.

When timed recording is enabled, the color of the R-in-a-circle icon is green.

The recording files are stored in your hotComm Transcripts folder. See Playback Session Recording.

Notes:

  • You can set one time period.
  • The time is taken from your computer's time settings.
  • The recording timer is automatically reset at midnight, so the time period must be within a 24-hour period running from midnight to midnight, based on your computer's time settings.
  • You can not set the timer for a future date. However, if you leave Enable Timed Recording checked, another recording will be made at the same time every day.

If Enable Timed Recording is set, you can also make other recordings at any time by clicking the Record button. Note that if your other recording overlaps the End Time for a timed recording, the recording will stop according to the End Time setting.

Best performance checks: do not be logged into another room while recording, turn off email, messenger programs and other applications to dedicate as many resources as possible for the recording.
